Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic and well-qualified teacher of Secondary Sociology - part time for one term to cover a maternity leave. This role is solely to teach AQA A level Sociology to one class in year 12, and one class in year 13. The teaching load will be 10 hours spread out across the week. We are open minded to the person we will appoint to the role and envisage resources for most lessons to be prepared in advance for the successful candidate to deliver. KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead, motivate and inspire others, generating an enthusiasm for Sociology amongst pupils and colleagues. 
  • Audit, manage, organise and develop suitable resources for teaching and learning.
  • Teach A level and AS level sociology lessons.
  • Track student progress and work with the Head of department if there are any concerns. 
  • Submit an annual budget bid that is informed by this improvement plan and manage the budget, keeping within designated limits of spending. 
  • Keep abreast of developments in Sociology education, continuously looking to strengthen your own knowledge, understanding and expertise. 
  • Attend relevant in-service training, and organise and lead training for others as appropriate.
  • Seek to develop external links to enrich the education that we provide. 
  • Represent the School at relevant local, national or international meetings. 
  • Be involved, as appropriate, in the induction of new members of staff. 
  • Ensure that staff and pupils work in a safe manner in accordance with these risk assessments and with the School’s policy on Health and Safety.
