Job overview

The Bulwell Academy seeks to appoint an enthusiastic and creative SEND Teacher to deliver within their Nurture Groups and Withdrawn Provision, to small groups and one-to-one. This post is suitable for those with Primary or Secondary experience, or an NQT interested in special needs teaching.

The post holder will be part of the Inclusion Team and work under the guidance of the SENCO and Senior Vice Principal for Inclusion (Executive SENCO). The team has undergone considerable developments over the last four years, securing a number of partnership projects with the Local Authority, and the Academy has recently been judged as ‘Good’ by OFSTED.

The aim of the Nurture Groups is to provide a more individualised and personalised curriculum provision within a mainstream setting. A SEND Teacher is required to participate in the development of the Nurture curriculum, liaise with parents and agencies where guided, and teach within the Nurture Groups. The post is also the responsibility point for special needs, to develop the rewards, trips and visits for the Nurture Groups across KS3-5.

It is essential that the suitable candidate has knowledge and understanding of SEND, and experience of teaching a range of subjects.

Everyone Achieves:
The Bulwell Academy is proud of its heritage yet is firmly placed in the 21st century.  We aim to provide an education tailored around each of our students to ensure they are ready to progress towards their future as successful 21st century citizens.

The building has been designed to provide a nurturing environment to stimulate young minds, through light and open classrooms, quieter independent learning areas and state-of-art learning and sporting facilities.  Our specialism, as a business and enterprise academy, focuses us on our key role in growing academic achievement, developing enterprising behaviours and strengthening the emotional intelligence of our students.

Building values and developing enterprise skills
The Bulwell Academy places tremendous emphasis on developing skills to enable students to be successful in their careers.  Enterprise skills enable students to have a ‘can do’ attitude.  This starts with developing their Six Rs.

These values nurture reasoning, reflection, resilience, resourcefulness, responsibility and respect within our students and establish the foundations and core values for our students and staff.  These attributes form the basis of our rewards system which recognises success and rewards positive behaviour.

As students progress through the academy and master these skills, the older students are then actively encouraged to develop their enterprise skills – their leadership, team working, creativity, innovation, risk management and problem solving skills.  All these are essential skills that every employer is looking for when employing staff to secure the success of their business.
