Job overview

About Us:

Westbourne is an independent, all through school in Penarth, renowned for its tradition of academic excellence, with a rich history dating back to 1896. Our commitment to achieving the highest standards of education has consistently placed us at the top of league tables, and in the most recent ESTYN inspection in 2018, we were rated 'Excellent' in all categories.

We are located in the picturesque seaside suburb of Penarth, just 15 minutes from the centre of Cardiff and included in the Times’ List of best places to live by the sea in 2023.

The Opportunity:

We are currently seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic teacher of Spanish and French to teach Prep and Middle Years. An ability to teach GCSE and Sixth Form in either language would be an advantage but is not essential. This is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to make a significant impact and play a leading role in an incredibly important area of the school's curriculum.

As well as inviting candidates interested in a full time position, we would also be interested in hearing from candidates who are ideally looking for a part time role.

As a teacher at Westbourne School, you will have the opportunity to engage with bright and motivated students, fostering their curiosity and understanding of the complex world around them. Our ideal candidate will possess a deep knowledge of geography, innovative teaching methods, and a commitment to academic excellence. If this is you, we invite you to apply for this exciting opportunity.

CPD Support: We are dedicated to the professional development of our teachers and will provide significant and supportive CPD opportunities to enhance your teaching skills.

Results-Driven: Westbourne Penarth is known for its results-driven approach, and we consistently achieve top rankings in league tables. Join a school with a strong tradition of academic excellence and a commitment to achieving the very highest of goals.

Single accommodation including utilities and meals during term time may be available in return for boarding duties, however living in residence is not a requirement of the role.

How to Apply:

If you are passionate about teaching and believe you have the qualifications and dedication we are looking for, we encourage you to apply. Please submit an application form and a letter of application by the application deadline of midday Friday 10th May 2024. CVs may also be submitted, but not in place of a completed application form.

Mr Ed Swanwick, will be happy to answer any questions; he can be contacted at the School by telephone or email.

Early applications are encouraged and we reserve the right to interview and make an appointment before the advertised deadline.

Join our motivated and engaged peer group in fulfilling our inspiring vision for the future. Your contribution will be valued, and your career will flourish in our dynamic educational environment.

Westbourne School History

Westbourne School was opened in 1895 at Ebenezer House in Westbourne Road. The present school dates its founding from 1896 when Miss Caroline Ferris became headmistress and named it: 'Westbourne House Preparatory School for Boys'. In 1901 the school moved to 13 Stanwell Road.

The adjoining building, 4 Hickman Road, was purchased in 1975 and the two buildings developed into Westbourne Senior School. Developments since 1975 have seen the school open a college for years 9-11, the acquisition of St. Alma's Girls' school at Victoria Road, after which the school became co-educational. The Victoria Road site now houses Westbourne Nursery and Junior school. Continuing improvements and the broadening of the school curriculum have seen an increase in pupil and staff numbers. Recent re-organisation in the school has led to a unification of identity into one school and the school continues to flourish, building on and adding to the achievements of the past
