Footsteps Trust is leading alternative educational provisions that specialises in sports and behaviour management whilst supporting young people in achieving upto 7 GCSE's.

We are looking for confident, capable & ambitious learning mentors to support students in accessing learning inside the classroom and managing behaviour throughout the academy.

Personal Attributes:

-Capable & willing to lead and partake in the delivery of sports sessions such as boxing, table tennis and football

-Confident in supporting the teaching and learning in a classroom setting

-Capable of creating and facilitating a conducive learning environment

-Ability to work in a fast paced, demanding environment

-Ability to work as a member of a team with a professional attitude/approach

-Ability to manage challenging behaviours/situations whilst maintaining calmness and professionalism

-Good communication and interpersonal skills – ability to communicate effectively with students, parents and staff in a range of situations

-The ability to establish a rapport with people (including students, parents, staff and managers)

-The ability to demonstrate tact and diplomacy

-Understanding of and commitment to the Footsteps Safeguarding Policies

-Passionate and committed to the skill development of students and a determination to ensure every student receives the best education possible

- Ability to follow directions and implement training received in a timely manner

General Purpose of role:

-Teach and supervise students on site during academic lessons and liaise with, and assist Management, leaders and other mentors.

-Work closely with the Academy Leaders, Operations Manager, Teachers and Senior Learning Mentors to ensure the smooth running of the operation.

-Where necessary, assist with the overall delivery of Footsteps by, for example, covering for absent Footsteps staff, setting up Footsteps areas of learning, ensuring tidiness and organisation

-To work in a team providing Behaviour Analysis instruction to a group of vulnerable young people with social emotional mental health needs (SEMH)

-To analyse students’ behaviour to allow for a function of the behaviour to be identified and to deal with the behaviour where appropriate in a calm and professional manner and in accordance with individual student learning plans, risk assessments and Footsteps policy.

-To ensure that individual and class timetables are adhered to at all times.

-To be flexible and willing to follow any variations in staff timetabling and student cover – including last minute changes implemented when necessary.


Footsteps is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All applicants will undergo safeguarding screening appropriate to the post, including checks with the Disclosure & Barring Service, a Section 128 check and at least 2 references which cover the last 3 years. We will request references from where you have worked with Children.
