Job overview

One year fixed term contract - 35 hours per week, term time only

We are looking for a flexible, committed individual willing to ‘go the extra mile’ in supporting a Year 6 pupil with Downs Syndrome.

Ideally you will have school experience of working with young pupils with specific additional needs – perhaps even experience of working with Downs Syndrome pupils; but more importantly you will be willing to learn, willing to use your initiative, willing to engage with school staff and parents and willing to enjoy learning with this delightful young girl.

You will need to be confident that you can establish firm boundaries and routines. Your presence in the classroom will be of vital importance to both the teaching staff and the pupils – so good health and an excellent work ethic are a priority. While the position is for a 1:1 assistant, you will be working closely with the class teacher, teaching assistant and SENCo as part of a team aiming to give our pupils the best possible learning opportunities and school experience.

Visits to the school are encouraged and welcomed – please contact our admin team on 0208 883 6880 or via e mail on office@hollickwood.barnet.sch.uk.

Please download application pack on https://jobs.barnet.gov.uk/ website. Completed applications should be returned directly to the school using the contact details above.

You will be notified within seven days of the closing date if you have been short-listed for interview. If you have not heard, within that time, you have not been short-listed. It is not possible to reply to all job applicants individually.

Hollickwood Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All applicants will be subject to a full Disclosure and Barring Service check before appointment is confirmed.

Closing Date: Wednesday 15th July 2015, 3pm
Interview Date: Tuesday 21st July 2015

About Hollickwood Primary School

Hollickwood School is a very special place for children to learn and grow.

Our aim is to build a strong caring partnership between home and school because children achieve their best when parents and teachers work together.

School ethos
We believe that everyone is unique and has something special to offer, and that learning should always be fun.

School aims
The governors and staff are determined that Hollickwood School will provide high quality, well organised education within a broad and balanced curriculum. The school aims to realise the potential of every single pupil, and will provide the best possible educational opportunities to the wider community by:

• Continuously developing and sustaining a stimulating atmosphere.
• Ensuring that each pupil reaches their full potential and develops the self-confidence and self-discipline necessary to become responsible, caring adults.
• Promoting a sense of partnership between staff, pupils, parents and the wider local community.
• Maintaining non-selective admission criteria.

As a small school each child soon comes to know and is known well by the staff. We are fortunate to have six teaching assistants and one learning mentor who are always available to support the children throughout the school day.  A quote from our recent Ofsted report reinforces this welcoming and personal aspect of the school:

“Pupils feel safe and relationships between staff, pupils and parents are strong, creating a
happy and welcoming community. This is seen in pupils’ thoughtful behaviour around the
school and in the way pupils work together in lessons.”
