A fantastic opportunity to join the Learning Development Centre (LDC) at St Julian's School as a Grade 3 Teaching Assistant.

St Julian's School is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and innovative Grade 3 Teaching Assistant to join its Learning Development Centre.

The Centre is one of Newport's learning resource bases and comprises 57 students with moderate to significant learning needs. LDC students are working between P levels to Level 2 on entry. At Key Stage 4, pupils are completing Entry Pathways courses and Level 1 courses in core subjects (English and Maths). There are currently 6 teachers and 10 Teaching Assistants working in this vibrant and busy department.

St Julian's School is a thriving over-subscribed comprehensive school that has an outstanding reputation within the local community as a result of quality teaching, constructive support for pupils and improving pupil attainment. We are a large secondary school with around 1,600 students currently on roll.

The successful applicant will have relevant experience and this will either have been gained from within a working environment or just life! Previous experience of working in a school is desirable but not essential. The ideal candidate will:

  • Be a good communicator
  • Be good at listening
  • Be calm in manner
  • Understand that confidentiality and discretion is of the utmost importance
  • Be flexible to cope with the changing demands of the department and needs of the pupils
  • Have good literacy and numeracy skills
  • Have a good working knowledge of ICT
  • Have a good sense of humour
