About Marine Academy Primary

Marine Academy Primary is a mixed, non-selective, non-denominational primary school for children aged 4-11. It is situated in Plymouth and is the first “marine” primary school in the country, plus the first free school in the South West to be graded "outstanding" by Ofsted.

There are currently approximately 150 pupils and the capacity is 420. It is part of Marine Academy Plymouth (MAP) and its three sponsors are Plymouth University, Cornwall College and Plymouth City Council. It first opened its doors in 2013 and has its own purpose-built, state-of-the-art facilities.

Headteacher

Values and vision

The school has a policy of support and respect. It welcomes children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). Its mission is to provide outstanding education that ensures all pupils reach their greatest potential.

As part of MAP, the primary school has similar values to the secondary school when it comes to its specialist subjects. Technology, art and sport are all integral to Plymouth, and they are to Marine Academy Plymouth. The academy won a national Special Needs Inclusion award in the Education Business Awards.

Ofsted report

“From their starting points, pupils achieve exceptionally well in reading, writing and mathematics and make very rapid progress. Achievement gaps between disadvantaged pupils and their peers have closed. Similarly, pupils identified with special educational needs are also making outstanding progress.”
