Job overview

St Peter’s Church of England Middle School is a thriving, popular and forward-thinking school located in historic Old Windsor ‘aspiring to be an outstanding school’.

We are seeking to appoint a strong practitioner who will work closely in partnership with the Leadership Team to create an outstanding school. Our recent SIAMs inspection (Nov 2014) noted we are well on our way to achieving this as a ‘result of a comprehensive improvement strategy’ where, ‘attainment levels are steadily improving for all groups’.

This is a great role for someone who is ambitious and who would be willing to lead English across the school as it provides the opportunity to take an active role in our school improvement programme alongside a team committed to continue improving the achievement of all our students potential in a school that ‘is more like a family’ where all staff are valued and supported. An ideal opportunity to prepare you for your next step into senior leadership, in a school with happy motivated learners who want to be challenged.

You will:

  • be an excellent classroom practitioner with high expectations of our learners
  • have a proven track record in raising standards within your own classes and possibly across a department
  • have the ability to develop potential in others
  • be a good communicator who is able to inspire and motivate both students and staff
  • have flair and vision to develop new initiatives
  • the ability to teach French may be an advantage.
  • be willing to teach upper KS2 and KS3 - the best of both worlds

In return we can offer you:

  • an exciting and challenging opportunity to develop your leadership skills
  • a genuine opportunity to help shape the future direction of the school in a supportive environment
  • a recognised and strong commitment to professional development

Visits to our school are welcomed and strongly encouraged. For an application pack, please download attachments from our website or telephone the School Business Manager, Susan Cook.

St Peter’s Church of England Middle School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. An Enhanced CRB disclosure will be sought from the successful candidate.

Values and Vision

St Peter’s is a transforming community where everyone supports each other in genuine fellowship. Our Christian values of fellowship, wisdom, trust, integrity and compassion drive all that we do. Through God and these values we will live out our Motto:

To Aspire to be the very best we can, to Believe in our own abilities and those of the people around us, to Grow and develop continually and to Achieve the very best we can.

We were pleased that our most recent SIAMS inspection found the strengthened Christian ethos at St Peter’s School is having a positive impact on students’ well being and achievement and that as a result of a comprehensive improvement strategy, attainment levels are steadily improving for all groups.  We were delighted that we achieved our best ever results (by a good margin) in both KS2 SATs and KS3 transfer tests (Year 8) this year…

In consultation with our community we changed our uniform. A uniform in itself does not result in better learning or higher grades, but what it does say is we have changed, the students are pleased to be wearing it, they are pleased to be students at St Peter’s and all we have and are going to achieve. Achievement in academic subjects is important but we also value time to develop and grow socially and emotionally. We are just as pleased that despite being the smallest school in the competition we played in fellowship and with integrity to beat our opposition and win for the very first time a regional sports competition, that our drama performances go from strength to strength with a memorable performance of Mary Poppins, Junior.  Our students, staff, parents and guardians have worked extremely hard and our students deserve to be wearing a uniform that ‘says’ we are Rising above the Ordinary.

We care enough to challenge our students and make the most of all we have to offer; we are aware that we are learning for the future on the doorsteps of history with all the specialist teaching, buildings and resources you would expect from a much larger school; we believe that St Peter’s offers the children of the Windsor area something special.

Ofsted

“Students say they feel safe and well cared for, show positive attitudes and are keen to learn. Key areas for action have been identified [by the recently appointed headteacher] and work has begun. This is shared and supported by the newly appointed Chair of the Governing Body.”

A more recent SIAMs report also judged that significant changes had been made to the governing body, staff team and curriculum.
