Job overview

An excellent opportunity to join a dedicated staff team at Helenswood Academy

Helenswood Academy joined the Ark network in September 2013 alongside Ark William Parker Academy, a nearby all-boys school, creating a new Ark hub in Hastings. They were joined by Ark Blacklands and Ark Little Ridge Primary academies in 2014. The two secondary schools continue to collaborate and have a joint sixth form, Ark Sixth Form, East Sussex, where students are taught across both schools. As well as the support they receive across the Hastings Hub, they also benefit from the support of the Ark central team and other schools in the network in Birmingham, London and Portsmouth.

We are seeking to appoint a Vice Principal who can work as part of a strong senior leadership team. This role represents an excellent opportunity for a dedicated and ambitious individual to develop as a senior leader and take the next step towards headship. We are looking for someone who can lead, challenge and support staff and students to great achievement.

The Vice Principal will be an outstanding teacher and a strategic leader with a resilient character and a strong personal drive. Along with other members of the senior leadership team, the Vice Principal will be centrally involved in the management of the academy and will be responsible for helping to establish a culture that is nurturing and rigourous.

You will be able to work collaboratively with other members of academy staff, be open and eager to learn, and have proven experience of positively impacting on student progress and raising attainment. In addition, you will receive training provided by one of the country’s top academy networks that will challenge you to develop your leadership capacity and confidence still further.

If you share our vision and have experience of leading outstanding practice, then we want to hear from you. We’re looking for a leader who exemplifies our belief in the potential of every child, is confident in insisting on the highest standards of academic rigour and behaviour and is energised by the challenge of our work.

For an informal, confidential discussion please contact Rachael Bemrose on 0203 or rachael.bemrose@arkonline.org. To apply please go to: www.helenswoodacademy.org/vacancies.

The closing date for applications is Wednesday 6 May, 11am.
Interviews will be held on Tuesday 12 May 2015.

Ofsted report

“Many middle leaders have welcomed the culture shift generated by Ark and the Principal since the start of this academic year. They know that they must be the driving force for change. Practically all middle leaders have risen to the challenge enthusiastically. Staff responses to the questionnaire reflected increasing confidence combined with realism about issues such as behaviour. The academy has wisely and successfully adopted many of the Ark programmes to develop staff’s skills."
