Job overview

The Nottingham Emmanuel School is seeking to appoint a visionary and ambitious leader to fulfil the role of Vice Principal. This is a rare opportunity for the successful applicant to develop their own skills whilst driving the school to be an outstanding provider.

The post holder will work closely with the Principal to help shape and implement the strategic direction of the school. Whilst not a pre-requisite, this post holder is likely to have ambitions to headship and this role will undoubtedly give them the experience and in school training/coaching to achieve this.

The successful candidate will have the ability to collaborate effectively with all stakeholders including SLT and the governing body, all of whom share the vision for the school to be exceptional in all areas and to help secure the levels of social mobility that our students deserve.

This is a role where we are looking for someone who always wants more for our students and is passionate about contributing to the community we serve.  They will be committed to the highest standards of education and be innovative in providing these opportunities for the school’s inspirational and talented staffing body, as well as our students.

Candidates should pay attention to the job description/person specification and explain within their application how they meet the criteria, whilst also describing what they will bring to the post from their own knowledge and experience.

The role will be based at the Trust’s The Nottingham Emmanuel School but the post holders may at any time be required to support or work at any of the sites within Archway Learning Trust.

Nottingham Emmanuel School is an oversubscribed 11-18 school with 1,161 students on roll and we truly believe that education is a vehicle to transform lives and provide each child the opportunity to not only learn and grow, but also to develop aspiration and character. At Nottingham Emmanuel School our school moto is ‘Together to learn, to grow, to serve’. We want to ensure that our students not only achieve great examination results, but also become great citizens who want to serve their local community. Situated in West Bridgford, we are easily commutable from locations such as Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and North Leicestershire.

We are proud to form part of Archway Learning Trust, previously Bluecoat Academies Trust, which was formed in April 2014 as a result of the very long and successful history of Bluecoat Academy. The Trust is a vibrant learning community where staff are well supported, students are cared for, receive a high quality education and experience every opportunity to be successful.

Values and Vision

The Nottingham Emmanuel School’s mission is to enable children to experience great learning, develop great character and become great leaders. The whole community of students, parents and staff is committed to its 4 core values – Wisdom, Hope, Community and Dignity – and these values are underpinned by the House system and the 4 House “heroes”, individuals whose lives have encapsulated these values. The school is highly inclusive; you will meet children who are aiming for the best universities in the UK and beyond, as well as those who need additional help with reading, writing and numeracy. This inclusiveness is at the heart of who we are as a school. Emmanuel is a school that develops children’s “heads” and “hearts”; staff are both academically ambitious for every child and determined that every student should also develop as a rounded individual, with access to wide variety of sporting and cultural opportunities.

Ofsted report

Student outcomes are well above national averages at both GCSE and A Level. In its latest Church of England SIAMS inspection, the school was rated “outstanding”. The most recent OFSTED report (March 2020) commented that:

  • “Pupils are articulate and speak with confidence in a range of situations … There is a sense of community where all are valued.”
  • “Pupils achieve well across the curriculum in all year groups. Pupils achieve well in their external examinations at the end of Year 11 … Students achieve particularly well in the sixth form.”
  • “Leaders aim to develop the ‘whole child’ and place a high priority on pupils’ well-being and personal development.”
