This is a worksheet/investigation/activity that can be used to decipher the nets of 3d shapes. I'm sorry but the extension won&'t come out on this document, but all you need to do is draw spots on the nets and draw corresponding spots on the correct side of the cube. The base square also needs colouring.

2D and 3D Shapes

2 Resources
Two fun Maths activity PowerPoints to introduce children to 2D and 3D shapes. The PowerPoints include interactive activities for the children to join in with. The PowerPoints show different 2D or 3D shapes and describes their properties. Children then have to guess the shape that is being described or the shape that is being slowly revealed. There is also a shape spotting activity and an odd one out activities. My classes have enjoyed using these PowerPoints to learn about 2D and 3D shapes and they encourage lots of talk about shapes. The activities could be used as a whole class activity or in small intervention groups. Aimed at Early Years and Year 1 children however could be used as a recap or booster session for Year 2 children.

3D shape matching cards

Great for children to practise or to complete independently for assessment. I used these for teaching the properties of the shapes, then later on, each child completed the activity and I took a picture and saved it to their area as evidence for the interim framework. Very simple! These cards are now in the classroom for children to revisit anytime they finish their work. It is good for keeping the knowledge fresh.
