As the title suggests, this is a colouring sheet for practising adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing with negative numbers. Unlike other maths colouring sheets, each sheet only requires four different colours and therefore requires fewer teacher supplies. Students answer the questions and colour based on their solution. This then creates a pattern which looks great on a classroom wall. The solution is the pattern displayed.

Both the original powerpoint, and the new one (with new title and end slides) are included.
This pack contains three different activities to give students plenty of practice at calculating with negative numbers.
1. Adding & Subtracting Negative Numbers Mystery Grids
Students have to solve clues involving adding and subtracting negative numbers to work out the missing numbers in the grid. For example, the numbers in the top row add up to -10. Includes 3 levels of difficulty.
2. Multiplying and Dividing Negative Numbers Mystery Grids
As above, 3 puzzles involving multiplying and dividing negatives.
3. All 4 Operations: Puzzles
Students must work out where the missing numbers go in these puzzles to make the calculations true.
Suitable for both Key stage 3 and 4. This worksheet is designed to help pupils revise adding and subtracting negative numbers. The challenge allows pupils to apply their knowledge on negative numbers on a GCSE style exam question. The worksheet is fully differentiated (mild, medium spicy, hot and challenge) allowing pupils to work at different levels simultaneously. The worksheet also features a section for pupils to self-assess their understanding and set a target for next lesson.
Answers included which can be directly projected onto the smart board to allow pupils to self-assess their answers.

Explore, Explain and Extend worksheet on adding and subtracting with negative numbers, works with positive and negative counters and should lead on from lessons that have given students experience with these.
This worksheet is based on my experience of teaching and working with the RME method. Included in the bundle is a PDF able to be printed both A4 and A5 and an editable slide alongside answers.
Any feedback appreciated.

This is an introductory lesson to integers less than zero, which leads on to rudimentary calculations and subtracting negative numbers. This often spreads over two lessons, I find, after a discussion on whether negative numbers actually exist and some number line activity in the classroom, showing students that subtracting negative numbers is akin to facing 'the negative direction&', but then having to walk backwards.
A worksheet that was originally created for a low ability year 7 set, but could be used for key stage 2 pupils learning about negative numbers for the first time.
Differentiated Negative Numbers questions in a RAG type worksheet, answers included. Suitable for KS3, GCSE Foundation Maths and Functional Skills L2. Also a Powerpoint of the worksheet questions and answers included to display to students to cut down on printing and marking.
Includes
1 x Worksheet
1 x Display Version of Worksheet
Answers Incuded
Questions include
Adding Negatives
Subtracting Negatives
Multiplying Negatives
Dividing Negatives
Squaring/Cubing Negatives
The differentiated questions allow all students to access the topic at their own confidence levels and the answers are always readily available to check their understanding.
I like to use this differentiated question sheets as a starting point in lessons to recap topics already covered as it easily picks up misconceptions, then again as a plenary or mini-plenary. The questions can also be used as a homework sheet. Having the answers also reduces workload as students can self-mark.
The smashed it (hardest) questions really stretch the most able students
This is the second whole lesson looking at Negative Numbers using the four different operations (add, subtract, multiply and divide) and lots of different real-life contexts and negative problems. This lesson is ready to go, with no prep required. It is also great for home learning. 15 slide presentation + resources.
The lesson includes:
+ starter (reviewing the rules – AFL opportunity)
+ learning objectives (differentiated)
+ keywords (so important for pupils who are EAL)
+ Video link (brain teaser to support remembering the rules)
+ Excellent teaching slides
+ MWB Activities to assess understanding
+ Lots of examples
+ 2 handout for supporting students and for notes
+ Worksheet (with answers)

A negative numbers worksheet covering adding, subtraction, multiplying, dividing and worded problems.
The worded problems are differentiated, I print out either the Level 1, 2 or 3 questions depending on the class. They are roughly the same questions, but with different numbers in.
Number Level 5: Tests students' ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide with negative numbers by generating random questions and providing the answers. can be used for whole class teaching or to generate worksheets
Suitable for both Key stage 3 and 4. This worksheet is designed to help pupils revise multiplying and dividing negative numbers.
Answers included which can be projected directly onto the smart board.
Activities (a game, puzzles worksheets and word problem cards) for differentiated negative numbers lessons at Upper Key Stage 2 (KS2). It was originally designed for Year 5 and Year 6 (Y5 / Y6) and equivalents but could work for able Year 4 too. Includes 3 fun Hidden Word / Spot the Mistake Puzzles (and solutions), a 30-card Loop Game / Dominoes Set and 16 Word Problems Cards (8 multi-step and 8 more simple). PDF format. In Scotland, use for Primary 6 and 7 (and able Primary 5).
PUZZLES
An engaging alternative to worksheets, these Numeracy puzzles make ideal starter, early finisher or homework activities. There’s one on increasing and decreasing temperature (Celsius), one for simple subtraction calculations with mostly negative number answers and a more challenging puzzle featuring addition and subtraction of negative and positive integers. Puzzles can be completed individually or in pairs / groups. Similar to codebreaker puzzles, a maths-related word is revealed after completing calculations. Each puzzle contains a grid. Within each box is a calculation and a letter. Students circle boxes containing errors. Then they assemble the letters from the circled boxes to reveal a maths word. There’s a further challenge question / task at the bottom of the page linked to the word.
Pupils often forget or avoid checking their work so it’s great to get them carefully checking in these puzzles. Spotting common errors may help them remember to check their own work.
LOOP CARDS / DOMINOES
Fun group / whole class activity to consolidate adding and subtracting negative numbers, using phrases (‘reduce by’, ‘increase’, ‘difference between’ etc). Forms a continuous loop.
WORD PROBLEM CARDS
8 Multi-Step Word Problem Cards and 8 more simple. Solutions can be printed back to back with question side for student self-checking or can be printed and made into separate cards if required. Consolidates understanding of negative numbers in the contexts of temperature (degrees Celsius), money / bank accounts and points in a sporting league. Work well as early finisher challenges. Separate pounds and dollars versions.

A calculated colouring activity in which students create their own Christmas card featuring a jazzy Christmas jumper! Students have to answer the questions in order to reveal the colours to shade the jumper. The questions involve addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of negative numbers. Once complete and coloured in they can add their own greeting to the front and the inside of the card.
This makes a great task for the end of term and gives the students a nice card to take home, with all the maths on the back of the card for them to show off!
The resource includes full instructions, a clear solution and ideas for how to extend students who finish. It can easily be made into a full lesson by combining it with other resources from our Christmas bundle.
