This activity is perfect for Art and Design students in Key Stage 5 (aged 16-17). How does your environment make you feel? In this project you’ll explore the relationship between space and emotion. Artists, designers and makers often challenge our understanding of space, place and the environment. Artists such as Olafur Eliasson transform spaces to explore people’s relationship to the environment. Use recycled materials to create different spaces on a small scale. Consider colour, texture, light and dark. Adjust, repair, customize and repurpose found objects.

Students cut out the boxes and match the impacts of drought with the descriptions. Could be used as a starting point, for revision or for making posters.

This lesson (2-3 hours) is designed around the concept of fast fashion and the damaging impacts it has on the environment. The example of the shrinking Aral Sea is used as a case study. One of the tasks involves creating a GIS overlay (using tracing paper) to show the shrinking over the decades. A really successful lesson with classes at KS3 and 4, with positive student responses.
