4 Persuasive Speeches: Language & Rhetoric

(0)
This resource contains four well-known recent speeches by famous women (Angelina Jolie, Emma Watson, Michelle Obama and Theresa May) which are excellent for linguistic and rhetorical analysis. This is a useful exercise for pupils studying persuasive writing and effective rhetoric. Not only do these speeches allow students to analyse how famous orators have used language, but they also inspire and teach how pupils can use language in their own persuasive writing too. Each speech is transcribed here and some contain designated space for analysis and answers to questions based on common GCSE exam tasks. This resource bundle is ideal for those studying English Language at GCSE, but is equally useful for KS3 language analysis or any other unit on rhetorical or persuasive writing.

Extremism - Hate Speech

(2)
2 HOURS - A fully-resourced, 2 hour lesson which investigates the concepts of free speech and hate speech. Students will explore the UK’s hate speech laws in comparison to other countries and examine contemporary news events where free speech has been used as an excuse for hate speech, such as the YouTuber, ‘PewDiePie’ and his antisemitic ‘pranks’. This lesson is great for PSHE (investigating bigoted language) or for Citizenship, to examine UK laws in an interesting way, or as part of a Human Rights unit. The lesson is most suitable or KS4 / KS5 (but there is nothing unsuitable for KS3) and is editable, so easy to adapt for your own PSHE planning. The lesson includes a detailed, 2 hour PowerPoint, information sheets, differentiated activity worksheets, differentiated challenge activities and clips tasks with questions and a literacy / debate focus task. These resources have been designed to be engaging, detailed and easy to follow. Find more lessons on everything from misogyny, masculinity and Andrew Tate to dating, love, health and wellbeing, extremism, pornography, gender and transgender prejudice, racism, sex and relationships and much more on the EC Publishing website. The PowerPoint is in the ZIP file as it is large. The images have been uploaded to show a few examples of the slides in the lesson :) You can find many more inexpensive and free PSHE 2020, RSE, Citizenship GCSE, Tutor Time and RE resources at my shop: MORE EC RESOURCES LESSONS

The Real Christmas - Speech and Language

The Real Christmas is a free resource that I’ve created as an easy way to work Speech and Language, reading, logical thinking, memory, pre-writing and writing, fine motor skills, history while giving you the opportunity to teach them why we celebrate Christmas from the Christian faith. This resource although can be used really for every child was created thinking mostly for Special Needs Education like Down Syndrome, Autism, etc Parents can use it at home or therapists, I would say this can be for different ages depending where the child is in his development. I created this from scratch drawing the main characters myself and enjoyed it as I will use it too, and is not easy to find resources that are made to support the SEN in particular and, from a Christian perspective. I hope it meets the needs of your children and that you both enjoy. Marry Christmas!! Norma

There’s lots of research into S&L, and I’ve found most of this is squirreled away with S&LT, which can be costly to schools. I’ve created a single sound & consonant blend intervention pack to assist with these sorts of targets.
