A short project used to skill up the students in preparation for their 12 week project. The project uses a variety of fabrics: oil cloth, fleece and poly/cotton. The pattern should be printed A3. It includes work sheets, SOL and PPTs. Comments would be most welcome.

Worksheets and PowerPoint designed for year eight. Put together to help students link the specfication directly to their first ideas. Can be adapted for other products - this one is for a bag. Comments would be appreciated if time permits.

Introduction to the sewing machine: work sheets and ppt to make a sewing sample. I use this for KS3 classes and adapt it according to the technique I am teaching - this one is for Y7 introducing the sewing machine and straight stitching, it includes peer assessment. It could easily be adapted to other technology subjects. For this example I have included a spelling test as a starter for the next lesson following in-class marking. Design and make task I use for Y9 but could also be suitable for a first project in Y10. Students design fabric to be made up into shorts, using grafitti as the theme. Various embellishment techniques used: applique, fabric crayons, fabric pens, stencilling, hand embroidery, machine stitching and free machine embroidery. Depending on the group some will make a waistcoat

Some basic pattern drafting that I do as my first project with Y10. Explains how to adapt a basic block into a child's pinafore with a front yoke, centre front inverted pleat and buttoned fastening down the back. The students make it up in cotton chambray with appliquéd and embroidered detail on it (in a cotton print). I had to re-load this resource as it went &'missing&'; as I was trying to up-date it!

Short, two lesson, extension to 'Cath Kidston&' style bag project.

Product evaluation activity to lead directly into designing first ideas. It is a group activity using 'rainbow&' groupings. It was initially developed for texiles but can easily be used for any D & T subject.

Levelled statements placed in assessment booklets at the end of a project explaining what the student needs to do to improve their level. Can also be used on work sheets. They are printed on Avery labels: J8651

Someone on the community forum was looking for risk assessment form. This is the one that we use.

Assessment booklets for technology rotations. They include attitude to learning and literacy targets.

Students are given this back to back in a clip on badge. They are given when students show expertise with a certain skill. They then become 'peer&' experts to help others with the skill: they are to help others but not to do it for them. This has worked really well in all classes, it has been a good motivator even in the difficult classes. At first I thought that some would be embarassed about using them but this was not the case.

A couple of sheets I use in Y10 to see progress from one project to another in preparation for controlled assessments. They use AQA assessment criteria and include self and peer assessment. One sheet for design and development and one for making. They are printed A3 size. I use the making one for the first project and then the designing one for the next projects. Comments would be most welcome if time allows.

Literacy starter activity: I change the words depending on the focus of the lesson. Left handed people like myself will understand why the left handed version is needed! I print 2 or 4 per A4 sheet

Y7 project booklet

This is a very simple key learning booklet that we will be using from September. We have been asked, as a school, that alll students write down the key learing for every lesson whether it be practical or written work and hopefully this will fit the bill. It will be printed as an A4 booklet and move with the students as they rotate around the subjects. It also has the option of teacher and/or peer assessment.

Differentiated sheets for writing up samples made. They include peer and self assessments elements It makes the students think about what they have done.

Posters to remind students that to find something out, and become independent learners they should not ask the teacher first!
