Pupils explore the theme of racism, looking at basic human rights, examples of overt and covert racism in society, and finishing with the analysis of two persuasive speeches on the theme of racism - Martin Luther King and To Kill and Mockingbird's Atticus Finch closing speech. (Fiction and non-fiction).

Prepared for a whole day intensive revision course; this focuses on Character and Theme analysis for the new AQA Specification for English Literature. With the focus on A02 Language analysis, pupils are encourage to annotate and analyse passages to aid in remembering quotations. Worksheets look at A03 contextual support, and there is a breakdown of an exam question to assess.

Aimed at independent readers from Years 5-11, the sheet encourages pupils to produce activities based on their reading books of choice. Pupils read independently for 20-30 minutes, then select an activity based on their learning style, to achieve 'points'. Using Blooms taxonomy; the harder the task, the higher the points. Using key scenes from the play, this was taught to both a top set Year 7 and mixed ability Year 8 set, as part of a wider Shakespeare unit. Contains all lessons and resources for the analysis of the theme 'Appearance vs. reality', leading up to an assessment task 'How does Shakespeare present the theme of Appearance vs Reality in MAAN?' Focuses on the development of theme across the play, analysis of characters and key language.

I used to stick this into pupils books/assessments, for them to reflect on the TIPs that were given on the formally assessed task. The teacher fills in the first part about how they achieved the given grade, and pupils then set targets on how to meet their TIPs. This can then be reflected in your planning for progression, and in their work produced. This process was awarded a Good with Outstanding category with OFSTED.
