Edexcel English Language:Paper 1, Question 3 (Language and Structure)

(8)
Used as a revision session for Year 11, this focuses on how language and structure is used in an extract from Oscar Wilde’s ‘The Canterville Ghost’ (1887). The PPT includes an example extract, LOs and can be adapted to suit your class depending where they are in their stage of learning. SQAQAQA stands for Statement, Quote, Analysis (Quote Analysis), but this can be adapted to suit your department and class.

For the new AQA Language Paper from September 2015 onwards. This covers Part A of the paper, and asks students to compares two texts from the 19th and 21st Century. I've used the documentary 'Hidden Killers in the Victorian Home' and played about 2-3 minutes so the class had an idea as to why Constance Wilde wanted changes to be made. This is about 25 minutes in, and includes the extract the class will work on. The extracts and on slides 6 and 7, as are the types of questions that will be used on this paper. These can be easily adapted depending on your class, either as a teaching PPT or for revision in Year 11. I've found it hard to find engaging texts and hopefully this will be a good start. Please rate and I will adapt and add some more lessons to cover this as time goes on.

Focusing on the new fiction section of AQA English Language Paper 1. There's a wealth of children's stories from the 19th Century that make this part of the exam more engaging. Please feel free to use and comment, as this is the first one I've created for this new paper. Enjoy.
