(0)
Six art lessons to teach children about reflections and landscapes. It was planned and delivered to a mixed Year 3 and 4 class but could be adapted for older or younger children. Children explore different media to create reflections linked to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as well as studying some of Vincent Van Gogh’s work involving reflections. Objectives: Learn to mix/blend colours to create reflections. Understand how objects would reflect onto other surfaces (particularly liquid). Gain a greater understanding of landscape pictures and how different objects are perceived. Experiment with different media when creating reflections. Session 1: Children learn about Vincent Van Gogh and his style of painting. Children experiment doing a painting in the style of Van Gogh (starry night over the Rhone). Children explore using paint to create a Van Gogh picture. Session 2: Children learn how to draw landscapes and different objects to scale depending on where it is. Children experiment and draw different landscapes. Session 3: Children use what they have learnt about landscapes and reflection to create a landscape picture of the chocolate room in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Learn how to use water colour to make effective reflections. Session 4: Children experiment with chalk to see how it can create reflections through the smudging technique. Children use what they have learnt to create a picture of the boat on the chocolate river in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Session 5: Children experiment with pastel to see how it can create reflections and practice blending one colour on top of another. Children use what they have learnt to create a picture of the inventing room in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Session 6: Children can choose what media they would like to use based on the previous lessons. Children use what they have learnt about landscapes and reflections to create a picture of the factory from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
