This 30 minute film explores issues around HIV, bullying, stigma, prejudice, teen relationships and discrimination. Undefeated has been developed by Life in my Shoes, the ground-breaking campaign from national HIV charity Body & Soul. The film has been certified 15 by the bbfc. Life in my Shoes is the UK's first youth led campaign against HIV stigma. Produced by UK HIV charity Body and Soul, Life in my Shoes is a multiplatform educational project that seeks to challenge the misconceptions and misunderstandings surrounding the disease. As part of the campaign an education resource pack will go in to secondary schools in September 2011. The main element of the pack will be an educational film based on the real life stories of young people that Body & Soul support. To make the campaign interactive, 14-21 year olds have been asked to audition for a part in the film.

This resource will be the starting point to an exciting process that results in a more informed, empathic classroom filled with students who better understand HIV and do not act with hostility, prejudice, or stigma towards people living with HIV. This lesson provides a thorough overview of HIV including: the immune system, basic cellular processes of HIV, HIV transmission, prevention and HIV treatment.

This lesson will provide a greater understanding of HIV disclosure by exploring the themes of trust, privacy, secrets & lies. Activities will focus on exploring the experiences of Blessing, providing a way for students to understand the circumstances why her need for privacy arises from the stigma that surrounds HIV. This unit seeks to consolidate the facts about HIV that are presented through the film, directly busting common myths and misconceptions. The film itself challenges these, providing some simple truths and facts. Further activities will tackle common HIV myths & misconceptions and provide students with an accurate HIV knowledge base.

The unit gives an effective understanding of the role HIV has in someone’s life, specifically as it relates to the experience of being stigmatised and feeling isolated. Students experience what it’s like to be the victim of bullies and verbal abuse.
