Literacy mats for each year group from Reception to Year 6. I keep these on my tables at all times for the students to reference. I have the tier above and below for the children to use. They are labelled just with ‘Literacy Mat 2’ meaning Year 2 expectations. All mats are based on the Pie Corbett progression in writing outcomes. Colour coded: Red - Vocabulary and spelling rules Green - Connectives Blue - Openers Yellow - Punctuation/letter formation I printed these with a HFQ word list on the reverse which I sourced from another seller on TES.

I talked/learned the text with the class using actions - we then used it to write a character description of our headteacher and then to write an information text to describe scorpions (unrelated) ! Edit this to suit the abilities of your class.
