An advert in the Yorkshire Evening Press took her down the route of being a radiographer, she says 'with a bit of sort of making your own luck, being in the right place, seeing an opportunity and going for it, then actually you know being in the NHS can be really fantastic.'

Sue Beeley is Head of Community at Sheffield United Football Club. 'I suppose that coming down on a Saturday and working is alright because I'd probably go to a game anyway.' She was a school teacher after college but after 15 years fancied a change to do something that used her skills in a different ways.

Stephen Thompson is a Violin Bow Maker and Restorer. He is based at Cockpit Arts. He had completed a course in mechanical and aeronautical engineering, but then realised he didn't enjoy engineering. So he wrote a list of all the things he really wanted to do. 'And everything I put on my list was very practical and quite traditional.' So that set him in the direction of crafts.

James Best is a Bridge Engineer for Halcrow. When he was young he lived near the Brunel's Clifton ridge and his first job was the second Severn Bridge. He says 'Bridges are the icing of engineering' and 'it&'s something that clearly helps a community, you know, people want a bridge, generally'. He likes to travel with his work.

Ryan Sibartie is a Formulation Scientist for Pfizer. He loved science at school. His job, which involves creating formulations of new drugs that will be used in clinical trials, is as good as he imagined it would be when he was younger. 'I really enjoy putting on a white coat and pretending to be Albert Einstein.'

Leon de Sainte Croix is Cruise Director on a P & O cruise ship - he is in charge of the entertainment. He was a professional dancer in the UK for ten years, then went to work on a cruise ship as a 'safe card', not having to worry about finding new jobs all the time.

Jeremy Strong is a children's author. He&'s a successful author now, but he spent five years without getting anything published, so his advice to young people is not to give up. 'If I&';d given up, I wouldn't be sitting here talking... Follow your dream as far as you are able.'

She says, 'I didn't think I would like sitting, you know, in an office doing things like writing and that kind of thing but I thought I would like the outdoorsy stuff.'

Simon Terry is a Staff Captain on a P & O cruise ship. This wasn't his first choice of career. He wanted to go into the armed forces but he failed the medical and had to rethink. 'So I didn&'t really choose to do it, however 18 years later I&';m still here, and I'm still loving it.'

Angela Baxter is a Syndicate Actuary for Chaucer Insurance. She was good at maths and science at school and knew she wanted to work in that area, so she went to university to study actuarial maths and statistics. Her studies took her to Melbourne for a year on an exchange programme, and after graduating she spent a year working in Brussels. Now she is based in London and loves the work hard/play hard ethos of her team.

His family all have office jobs, but that wouldn't suit him - 'I&'m the black sheep of the family, totally.' He&';s quite comfortable hanging on ropes and dealing with heights, so he plans to work up ropes and earn more money than if he was on the ground.

Tamsin Gay is an Outdoor Instructor at Plas y Brenin Mountain Centre. She has a degree in IT and business and had a job with an insurance company. 'But basically I was really unhappy doing that... I spent every moment of my time trying to get outside, trying to go mountain biking or kayaking. And eventually I just completely binned it and applied for a trainee outdoor instructor scheme.'
