Simple Music Lesson - Indigenous Australian (NAIDOC) Composition and Performance

(13)
In this straightforward lesson children are introduced to Indigenous Australian music in the form of 'Songlines'. Following the example of Indigenous Australian storytellers, children are encouraged to create their own musical composition using instruments, voice or a combination of both. Children will experience composition, performing and conducting - all of which I have found the children to enjoy enormously. Lesson plan attached which includes learning intentions and success criteria. I have also created a PowerPoint which can be used to assist in the introduction and teaching of the topic. The PowerPoint contains a short video. Even if you do not use the lesson in its entirety, hopefully you will be able to make use of elements of the information I have provided. I have made every effort to make the lesson plan user friendly. Running time: 1 - 1.5 hrs. Feedback welcome as I am still very new to this.

Simple Music Lesson - Viking Chant - KS2

This is a very simple music lesson that can be used to introduce the concepts of rhythm and dynamics and the importance of their use within a musical performance. There is also an emphasis on the importance of following the instructions of a conductor/choir master when performing as part of a musical ensemble. Children really enjoy the active nature of the lesson and relish the opportunity to 'conduct' their classmates. My original lesson focused upon a 'Viking' chant however the lyrics used could quite easily be adapted to suit a variety of topics. The possibilities are endless. Running time: 50mins+

Anne Fine (Author) Wall Display

A wall display providing information relating to the author Anne Fine. I felt that this might be useful to others as having searched the internet I could not find any resources relating to Anne Fine suitable for a wall display. The information and images contained within the display have been gathered via a number of resources, predominantly online. I would recommend printing the wall display at a ratio of 2 pages per sheet of paper. Please feel free to make alterations to the display as you see fit. Feedback welcome.

A couple of photos of my recent storyline wall display that accompanied our reading of James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl. Hopefully they will serve to inspire others in their own endeavours. I will make efforts to provide descriptors as to how we produced each section as well as templates for the seagulls in the coming weeks.

This is a Microsoft SWAY that I prepared for class use during a recent period of home learning. It contains a guide to various aspects of Edinburgh Castle and includes embedded videos and images. There are a wide range of tasks included also encouraging children to - MAKE, SAY and DO. This was created to be used at CfE First Level but could likely be adapted to be used at any primary stage. I hope the use of this SWAY saves you some planning time and helps to promote independent learning within your class. The link to the SWAY is on the attached Word document - click it and it will take you to the lesson.
