Drugs presentation - enrichment, citizenship or PSHE lesson

(10)
An up to date presentation (2016) with various activities for students to do. These include sorting and naming drugs into their classes. Looking at the effects, risks and laws of a number of drugs. Why people may take drugs, with written experiences from people that have taken. Also videos of two scenarios where drugs have been taken and an opportunity at the end to create a leaflet or poster. This was used over a 2 hour period, so you can adapt and change depending on the length of your lesson. Any feedback would be appreciated as I've spent a while on this. Thanks

Area and circumference of real life famous circles

(12)
A range of questions with answers asking the students to find the area and circumference of various real life circles. Each one has a brief piece of information with it ( it is from wikipedia so do let me know if it isn't correct). Last two questions should challenge the more able students. Overall I've had great feedback from the students, let me know what you think. Thanks.

Basic simultaneous equations - substitution

This was used with my top set year 8, they were comfortable at solving equations, substituting into formula, recognising y=mx+c and rearranging formula. There's a quick recap before you go into the lesson. The worksheet and answers is also attached. Any feedback is appreciated :)

Plotting and sketching quadratic graphs

I tend to print off slide 5 and ask the students to fill that in. This lesson follows on from y=mx+c and introduces curved graphs to them. The actual activity has been altered from another TES user (prhodes), but I have changed it slightly and created the ppt by myself. If you download and use, please do review. Many thanks.

Mini Cheddar Mount Everest maths investigation

This was used on the first day back, but it could easily be used throughout the year. This investigation is based on a jaw dropping fact, that all of the mini cheddars consumed in a single day is the same height as 7 Mount Everest! Students used estimating to find out how many packets this will be. Maths, Investigation, Estimation, Rounding, Everest, Approximation, Differentiated

Fractions Summary Quiz with answers

This was used as an end of chapter quiz for the students. The slides move automatically after every 2.5 minutes. This will total 40 minutes so plan accordingly. I have included the answers at the end and suggest a peer marking approach to that.

Landscape Gardening - Area of various shapes

Students are required to find the area of a range of shapes, from rectangles to semi-circles in order to find out how much turf is required for the garden! I usually print them out a sheet rather than having it on the board. Answers included.
