Letters and Sounds/Phonics assessment tracking booklets and answer forms phase 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.

I have created an assessment system for Letters and Sounds/Phonics phases 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. For each phase there is a booklet to download, which I have laminated and bound together as a book, this is similar to the book used for the Year 1 phonics screening test to help the children get used to this format and way of assessing. In the booklets are words for the children to read set out like the Year 1 phonics test where the pseudo words have an alien next to them. I have made sure that all the words in each booklet include the recommended phonemes and key words/tricky words for that phase. so no other assessment/phoneme flash cards are needed. For each booklet there is an assessment answer sheet for the teacher to use. This has all the words on with boxes underneath to tick the phonemes they have recognised as they are sounding out the words. (If they can recognise all phonemes in the word but can't blend to read I tick the phonemes underneath in the boxes, but then circle the whole word, then I know they haven't been able to blend it) At the bottom of the assessment answer sheet there is the list of words they need to spell for each phase. I get the children to write these words on the back of their assessment answer sheet, then the sheet is filed in my assessment folder. These sheets are great to show progression if completed termly and passed up through the years. These assessment booklets really help the children in the Foundation Stage and Year 1 prepare for the Year 1 Phonics screening test. They are also so easy to use if you wanted a teaching assistant or parent helper to administer the assessment, and they take less time than any other letters and sounds assessment I have used before.

Letters and Sounds workshop for parents and activity for them

This is a PowerPoint for parents about Letters and Sounds/ Phonics. It includes information to parents about every Phase from 1-6 giving examples of what is expected and the range of teaching strategies and games used. It then goes through vocabulary and the meaning of a range of term i.e. digraph. It has a quick phoneme frame game attached to get the parents to do where they have to put certain words in the frame. At the end of the PowerPoint it tells parents how they can help their child at home and useful websites. Very informative PowerPoint with pictures and clear information.

Leaflet to give to parents about sharing books at home. It gives ideas for sharing books, activities you can do before reading the book, activities you can do whilst reading the book, activities you can do when you have finished the book, points to remember and a picture of a book identifying where the title, blurb etc is. The leaflet needs to be printed back to back and folded in thirds. Great to give out at a parent workshop. Aimed at Nursery and Reception parents.

EYFS Developmental Matters Statement document. Easy one area per page. EY/Nursery/Reception

I have created an easy document for monitoring the EYFS using the Developmental Matter statements from 16-26months. They are on an easy one page per area of learning. In my assessment folder each child has a copy each (which is only 4 A4 sheets as can be easily photocopied back to back) I highlight the statements as and when they are achieved. A different colour for each term (or half term if assessing more regular) i.e. yellow for Autumn etc) They are separated and numbered so if you need to evidence your observations you just put for example (MH3) for Moving and Handling statement 3. When Ofsted came they loved this as could easily see progress. You could also complete these in a word document for each child. As they are quite compact I have also laminated them and displayed them in my classroom and outside area so that all adults can refer to them. Hope you find them useful.
