Edexcel Computer Science 1-9 Knowledge Organisers

(14)
Our department's attempt at creating Knowledge Organisers. We have adapted a number of OCR ones and used the specification and revision guide provided by Edexcel to include more detail for the specification. I would like to thank https://mrocallaghanedu.wordpress.com/2015/04/19/knowledge-organisers-for-gcse-computing/ for a really interesting blog post and got us started for Edexcel. Glen for help FAQ and misconceptions, however these should be adapted to suit your own situations, and Is more to help staff and parents than pupils, though can be useful. I hope it saves you all some time. Please feel free to adapt. If you make something from this, please share-a-like, as I would hope they were better than ours, and I might need to improve what we have got! ;) It will also be complimented by the memrise course: https://www.memrise.com/course/1021478/edexcel-computer-science-gcse/

This is a resource I created that I use as a starter to get pupils used to writing their own formulas. Used a quiz, they can see if they can write simple formulae in excel.

This is a work in progress. I have still a lot of work to do on this! The most useful document I would expect you might like to have a look at is the short-term planning overview, but it links to the long-term planning. It effectively goes through the specification, what pupils should know, and tries to cover all of it. We are using the Future Soundz Client Brief to work through for this practice as we go, to get used to get the pupils used to what is required. (this is also available on here or PM me).

Photoshop CS4 Tutorial - Colour Splash

(1)
This is a word document worksheet, feel free to edit and change as you would like to use with pupils as a guide to creating a simple colour splash image one of the easiest and most effective tutorials, that pupils can get creative with! I then encourage pupils to create their own, and have had some wonderful creations!

This is the Long term planning and medium/short term planning for CiDA that is still very much a work in progress... It has already moved away from set lessons and is now on allowing pupils to add content to their webpages and use video tutorials to help them as they go... But It does give a rough outline of the plan of action I have taken to tackle this...

I looked at the Sample material that Edexcel produce and thir best example is still scrollable but works in the same way fullscreen it seems to work ok! -press F11) make it a bit smaller if you want to make sure it doesn't scroll!**

Curriculum Overview - Could be any subject

(1)
This is a curriculum overview document for the year: 2013-14 I am trailing in my department. But can be used in any course/subject It will include just topics for a quick overview of where and when we teach them and important dates, such as exams, report deadlines, controlled assessments etc. This will be used so that all staff in the department know where about's they should be and can plan lessons accordingly. Feel free to use it, amend it and comment any changes as they may be useful for others (inc. myself!)

More HTML... I found that the pupils really had no idea about the code, so decided to dedicate a bit more time to it! They loved it. You will need additional resources, materials and do some class demos with this, it is not for a novice teacher. It will make it easier for when pupils have to embed code into their webpages that have SOME understanding of what it should look like and where the code may end up going.

OK, so here is the lesson about pupils designing the template page to use for ALL pages. Pupils NEED to get used to reading a brief and then interpreting what they have read and turn it into a design. A Skill they find difficult. We spend a whole lesson just on designing a template on paper!!!!!! Next lesson will be designing the template on the computer, however I will be doing it mainly through Video tutorials and Demo's as apposed to a PowerPoint.

We will be printing this in Sept 2019 to place on the wall near the ceiling and wrap around at least two walls of the classroom.

Power of Language / Word Wall / Formality Scale Computer Science

A response to a whole school strategy to develop more sophisticated language with pupils during topics with a formality scale to the side to encourage more formal/expert language. These again will change but are currently for Edexcel Computer Science keywords - Unit 2. Banner printing is a must for this… 297mm x 1200mm else it will be rediculous cutting and sticking… font from Dafont - Retro Gaming
