A lesson plan used for an observation with a mixed ability reception class, as part of our ‘Magic, Mystery and Fairytales’ Topic. The children recieved a letter from a princess asking for their help to escape the castle. The children engaged in good discussions and small group work. An engaging powerpoint designed to captivate Year 1 children at the beginning of Castles/ Who’s the king of the castle? topic. The presentation uses images based on areas explored within the topic (e.g. dragon, castles, fairytales) to encourage the children to predict the new topic. A KWL chart is introduced and the children are encouraged to think about and record what they would like to find out during the topic all about castles.

Back to school KS1 maths fun! Get to know your new class through a creative maths activity in the first few days of the new school year. The activity asks children to represent how many people are in their family using a whole part model and their age using a ten frame. Create a ��Maths about me’ display board. The children baked flapjacks, completed superhero related activities during the day and were presented with certificates at the end of a very fun day. List of resources required is noted.

I have created a short lesson presentation to discuss special learning bubbles on return to school in September. These slides could be used with Reception, Year 1 or Year 2 for a circle time discussion, a PSHE lesson or on the first week back as an introduction to their new classroom. The slides could easily be adapted for an older/younger age group. The slides will help build discussions around what the set up is like in classrooms with bubbles, and the children can engage in a brainstorm of what is the same and what is different to when they were last in school.
