The Four B's

(2)
A way of supporting children's independent work, structuring the way they think through a problem. Each child has this stuck in the front of their book and follow the process if I'm not working with their table. The first B is for Brain. The second is for Book. The third for Buddy. Finally, the fourth for Boss. N.B/ This isn't actually my idea, but a resource I made to support the idea being used.

Story Mountain - Display/Recording Sheet/Writing Prompt - NO PREP.

(0)
A five-part story mountain that has been used as an example in my writing area. Each page has been blown up to A3 and laminated for children to record their stories into five succinct parts, which has introduced the idea of using paragraphs to group together related content to my Year 2 pupils. Could easily be used as part of a display, printed off to form a booklet for an extended piece of writing or as a starting point to innovate from.

Non-Participation Record Sheets

At the beginning of my NQT year I found a Non-Participation Record Sheet which I have used with great success to involve everyone in PE sessions. With the help of my colleagues these forms were adapted and rolled out for use lower down the school. For some children it may be useful to ask a teaching assistant to talk through and scribe responses.

'Shape Attax' Cards

(1)
Children have to display their knowledge of shape by completing a ‘Shape Attax’ card as either a classroom activity or for homework. You could make a set yourself and use them as follow on/loop cards or as an actual match attax game. The first file has a quick example of a minimum expectation and the second file has four blank cards.

Class Spelling Challenge

The spreadsheet is formatted so that anything below 7 is displayed as red, 7 is orange and 8 or above is green (out of 10). It also calculates the average spelling score which is displayed at the bottom of the page. So, if as a class the average is over 8 out of 10 they get a reward etc. or however you choose to use it.

One of the pupils in school was visiting Australia for a month, too see some relatives. Her parents didn't want her to be missing out on the skills we were looking at at school. So, I created this pack with a variety of activities for them to complete whilst they were away.

Literacy Table Groups - Football

(2)
Designed to increase boys participation and enthusiasm when working in Literacy. The table group names are fictional football teams that are linked to different classes of words. They can also be used in conjunction with the league table, adults give points for whatever they wish to, the table with the most points after a week/half term etc. I find it useful when changing table groups for any reason to talk about children transferring from one team to another or when outside of the transfer window - joining a team on loan with a view to a permanent transfer.

Target Card/Contract Card

(2)
I have used this idea with great success with a handful of children in my first year of teaching. With children who had difficulty with concentrating over long periods, self-motivation or behavioural problems. The idea is that the child comes up with three targets that will help them to become more motivated etc also featuring something that is personal to them, favourite football team, a long term goal they have. With practice, the idea is they keep it in their pocket and when they are struggling a simple command of 'pocket' or something similiar will remind them of their targets.

Example Olympic Poster

(0)
Using the 'Get Set' posters as a stimulus, the children created their own Olympic posters. This was my example that I showed them. To produce their own posters, children used the internet to search for images (you may want/need to create an image bank locally stored instead) used internet language translation sites and demonstrated their word processing skills.
