Continuing work on Christianity and symbols this lesson was written for Year Threes to explain the symbolism behind the El Salvador Crosses. Children think of enquiry questions about their cross and discuss it with the class. We also look at the Maria Gomez cross. Children discuss how learning about these crosses helps their understanding of Jesus, Christianity and themselves. The session leads into an extended art session where the children make their own A1 size painted crosses. (Makes a lovely school display ready for Easter!)

This is the third in a series of lessons about the Five Pillars and key Islamic beliefs. It was written for Year 5 but easily adaptable. We start with a discussion about our favourite months of the year then look at the Islamic calendar and the month of Ramadan. We listen and watch two clips to try to find answers to our own enquiry questions then there is a quick group activity matching the question cards to the correct answers. We compare the feasting of Eid with the fasting of Ramadan. Children complete a mindmap about what they have learnt whilst trying to avoid temptation.

A drama based enquiry about why the angels told the shepherds the good news of the birth of Jesus. Starts with a 'who said what&' activity looking at Bible quotes. Then uses a poem, some paintings, P4C and a hot seating enquiry before groups create a news report interviewing the shepherds.
