Assessing Computing in the New Curriculum

Using stages rather than levels, this is a reference sheet for each year group from 1 to 6 (with each stage being in line with year group expectations). Statements are taken directly from the 2014 Curriculum, split across the stages, with the added bonus of possible examples for each statement. I ran the original version of this in school and found variation among teacher assessments, hence the new addition of examples to support consistency and progress across the school.

Addition and subtraction within context of a Rainforest Expedition

A set of 4 differentiated booklets that we created for year 4 within the context of our rainforest topic. The opening letter inside each booklet sets the budget that the group had. Lower ability and very lower ability had prices in pounds, leading to multiples of 10p for the luxuries. Middle and higher ability had pounds and pence. The idea was that, within their budget, they had to buy 1 of each essential and spend any leftover budget on luxuries. It prompted such good engagement and enthusiasm within my class that the lesson was graded Outstanding (in old Ofsted terms). It could easily be edited but as it took us ages, I feel others should get some use of it too.
