*update - a POLISH version is now available (see my resource listing)* Hi - This is a basic skills booklet which contains 20 short tasks designed to increase basic knowledge of English. It focusses on spellings, adjectives, similies, punctuation, homophones and many others. A task completed checklist is provided. I used this with a bronze certificate to be awarded as a sense of acomplishment for year 9 lower ability pupils. Many of the tasks have been sourced from various resource sites (including TES), some have been amended and some have been written by myself. This could easily be used with any KS3 class.

Here is a full lesson (or 2) on 'Macavity:The Mystery Cat' by T. S Eliot. I did this with a top set year 8 for Poetry unit and they were pushed trying to do it in one lesson. The lesson follows a 'menu planner' format where pupils can select what tasks they complete and add up their score at the end. I gave out some prizes for those who had the highest 'bill'. All resources are provided and the plan includes a group task. The plans show how differentiation is at the heart of this lesson which introduces an unseen poem to the class.

Here are the resources I created my a 'Dare Board' display. There board offers 18 'Dare' tasks that can be used as instant extension tasks for G&T pupils. It can be adapted for all subjects areas although has been created for English. Pupils can collect rewards for completing tasks such as notes/phone calls home. I have laminated each task card and arranged on a wall with blue tack so they can be used and replaced for the next person. I stapled a plastic cup containing the cards so pupils could bank completed task for rewards. Enjoy

This is a full lesson with plan and resources which follows the 'menu' style lesson format. Fully differentiated. The lesson is based on Act 1 scene 1 - with a focus on the relationship between Beatrice and Benedick. Links provided on the PPT to the clips from this scene (on youtube). Also includes a quick facebook profile starter sheet and vocab grid. Images of the two characters are profiled on the facebook PPT for use during the dating profile task.

I used this lesson as an introduction to the poem 'The Tyger'. It followed on from a lesson on 'Macavity: The Mystery Cat' (also on TES) as pupils were to compare these for an assessment. Pupils choose as many tasks as they are able and there is an audio clip of the poem being read out (youtube) on one of the slides. I have also included a pupil copy of the poem for annotation.

I have developed a range of independent living sequence cards for various household tasks such as make a cup of tea, make a sandwich or boil an egg. These card can be printed and each individual stage can be attached to the card using Velcro. This pack will make a good start and can also be used as a template to make further card to suit your students. *Please note that the preview only shows the task squares not the written instruction cards that goes with it. This is a POLISH translated version of my basic literacy skills booklet. The activities are in ENGLISH but the instructions are given in POLISH to aid the learning of pupils with limited literacy skills. This could be used as a starter booklet or a homework booklet. Pupils are to explain quotes, find quotations and then answer the question: How does David Almond present the man in the garage? using PEE. There is also a differentiated version included of the same assessment. This is an analysis assessment on the poem 'Island Man&'. This was done with lower ability year 9 class. The sheet needs to be printed on A3 paper (I did a slide print to A4 then simply enlarged to A3). It is structured into 3 sections; The poem, poet and culture, structure and language. Pupils answer on the sheet and a copy of the poem is included for pupils to label writing devices used. ***Note: I have a included a visual writing device reminder box at the end - this can easily be removed - see word doc if interested.

This resource was designed to give pupils information about Victorian London in preparation for an assessment which asks pupils to produce a peice of creative writing based on a walkthrough Victorian London from a charcater point of view. The actitvity was set up as 4 information stations around which group rotate. The 4 stations are: Food and Drink Jobs and Transport People and Class system Sights and Sounds (Youtube clip) Pupils make notes on the senses sheets (EAL/Lower provided). This is an ICT based research lesson for The Hunger Games - we did this as part of our moving media unit in which the assessment was to write a film review. Pupils are asked to find 10 facts about the film, look up meaning of words/order words they can use in their review. The last task is to create at least 2 character fact files - the name and photo have been supplied - pupils are to research the character and discuss their personal opinion of the character. I used this resource with a lower ability year 9 group.
