Character outline, character traits and character words. Can be used in one or two lessons to build up individual characters. In one lesson I gave all of the pupils a character name each (a famous character) and they had to build up the traits using the words provided without telling any other pupil who it was. The pupils then had to guess at the end who the character was.

This is a series of lessons aimed primarily at Year 7, but could be used with any year group at KS3. Pupils are given an every day item to advertise. They must use the information provided. Stretch it like Beckham document is to be used as an example for them to model their work on. Peer assessment of the pieces. Could be used as an in class competition.

Pupils have to study the picture for 5 minutes without writing anything down. Then they have to write down what is happening in the picture. How does the subject of the painting feel? What was the subject doing at the time of the painting? How does it make the viewer feel? Anything else that the wish to comment on. Pupils should then be divided into groups to discuss their findings and be prepared to share them with the class at the end of the lesson. Can be used as a starter.
