KS2 Handwriting Intervention Programme

(1)
This is a step by step guide for an adult delivering a handwriting intervention to pupils in KS2. If you use a different font at your school then you can easily edit this on the word versions of each document, by highlighting the words and selecting your own school's font on your computer. This resource is aimed at pupils in KS2 who are not forming letters correctly and/or who are not joining letters correctly. This resource should be seen as a revision of existing knowledge and is not intended to be used at KS1. The resource has four pages: 1. Instructions 2. Progression through a set of individual words 3. Progression through writing whole sentences 4. A sheet for the adult to record the child's initial errors, dates and duration of sessions as well as the impact of the intervention.

Year 6 Writing SATs checklist for levels

(154)
I've gone through the mark schemes and pulled out key points for children to check for to be sure of securing a level 4 or level 5. I've separated it into three strands (as in the long writing) so that the children get the idea that they need to get everything in a particular group to secure the marks. Hope you find it useful! Level 3 now added.

Fractions with Smarties Year 4-5 (2014 NC objectives)

(3)
This lesson is a fraction investigation and a simpler investigation, is included for any children who are unable to access the harder task. A detailed lesson plan accompanies the children's worksheets as well as all you will need for the whiteboard. The main investigation involves children exploring which fractions can be made from the total number of Smarties, e.g. 1/2 of 40, 1/4 of 40, 1/5 of 40, 1/8 of 40, 1/10 of 40, 1/20 of 40, 1/40 of 40 and linking these to the factors of a number. They also draw conclusions about which of the numbers are prime numbers and give reasons for this. Once they have done one number they eat a Smartie and start again. Whiteboards and pens are required for the warm up activity (on IWB resource). Each child also needs a box of mini Smarties (available in multipacks). The simple investigation looks at which numbers it is possible to find 1/2 of with the children looking for patterns, e.g. even numbers, multiples of 2.

I use phonicsplay resources a lot for phonics and they suggested using a dicatation passage to assess the correct phase for children by looking at unaided writing. I decided to write something for my class which incorporates a number of words we have encountered on our way through phase 5c. I will use the guidelines from phonicsplay (attached) to assess.
