Prayer at the World Cup 2010

(7)
I couldn’t find any resources that were specifically aimed at RE to do with this year’s football World Cup. This is based on a BBC news story about prayers that were written for the players, other participants, fans and even ‘football widows’/ others who dislike soccer mania! It is aimed at year 7 pupils or others in KS3 who are learning about prayer. it asks pupils to write their own prayer - staff in Christian schools could really use this for assemblies displays etc. For those pupils who may not have this belief, the suggestion is that they could use the format to write a song or poem to reflect the feelings raised by these prayers. There is a levelled peer/ self assessment at the end of the activity (as I said, aimed at KS3 pupils so this is really aimed at Level 4-5 but can be easily adapted to suit more or less able classes). Pictures are from the BBC and FIFA websites. Hope you enjoy this lesson!!

I could not find any resources about the World Cup for Religious Education, so I decided to make some. I have made this activity quite general, so it could be used for a number of lesson activities. The background information focuses on Muslim and Christian teachings about race equality.
