2d shape - pass the bomb game

(13)
Collaborative learning. I used Kagan style groups of 4 children to play pass the bomb. In this game the whole class or a small group can play pass the bomb to revise 2d shape properties. The class are split into 4s. One child keeps score while the others pass a bean bag around. The slides with shapes on have a timer and a bomb sound effect to stop each round. You have to click to move on from the blank slides. This should give each group time to mark their score. Great fun, my class have made their own slide shows for different pass the bomb games too!

Seasonal, topical fireworks sorting activity. My class went on to design their own fireworks with added criteria to be sorted into Venn hoops. It was also very useful to support language.

A collection of worksheets/activity cards to use around November 5th. Basically word problems involving money calculations. There is price list of items that could have been bought at a firework event, this you could use as a demo or a make your own problems card. Then there are 3 differentiated word problem sheets. You could make them more tricky by adding a 'change from&' element. Made originally for Y3 but could be edited to suit higher or lower ability.

ed endings - firework verbs

A resources linked to bonfire night. The past tense verbs are suitable for a report on fireworks. I made this to reinforce the spelling of words ending in ed. First I used a power point downloaded from this site to share the fact that ed endings can sound like id, d, or t. Then asked the children in small groups, to sort out the words into Venn hoops red, yellow and blue according to the sound made at the end. For this I used the words from the white tables cut into cards. To finish I showed the shaded answers sheets for self assessment.

These are 2 videos comprising of photos of animals found on 2 fictional safari's in Africa. I showed 4 minutes of each film and as they watched, my pupils recorded on a frequency table how many times each animal appeared. They then transferred the information onto a bar chart which showed data from both safari&'s on one chart with the bar for say rhino&';s in Botswana next to the bar for rhino's in Kenya. I asked the children some questions on the data and asked them to create their own. A new way to collect data.

2 times table facts - Pass the bomb

I used Kagan style groups of 4 children to play pass the bomb. The whole class or a small group can play pass the bomb to revise two times tables facts. 1 child keeps score while the others pass a bean bag around. The slides with pictures on have a timer and a bomb sound effect to stop each round. You have to click to move on from the blank slides. There are a few help slides at the beginning with model answers for the children. This should give each group time to keep score and improve. I printed the white background slides to make a card game using the bomb from the real game.

These problems were originally for a Year 2 class who were working on a topic or art and artists. They would be useful for Year 3 or 4 groups. You could use them as a slide show. I printed them out as work cards and pupils worked on them in pairs.

These resources comprise of a simple photostory that I made for a P4c discussion lesson during refugee week. The video features 'imagine&' as the class had been researching the Beatles so it fit for more than reason. I have just stumbled on the great new short animated film series from the BBC on seeking refuge - it occurs to me that these resources are very relevant right now and would be useful for assembly or for class discussion, even as stimulus for writing - biography, diary, argument etc.
