I&'ve included a scaffolding sheet that I used with my lower groups and also the notebook with an mental starter based around counting money followed by a couple of 2-step problems to introduce.

Introduction to Grid Method

(1)
This is simply a colour-coded grid to help children to work out which part of the grid to use when. It is great for a Year 3 class who are seeing grid method for the first time. I print them out and laminate them for lesson input and it helps them become more independent with the method.

This is a powerpoint based on the Liverpool Cards for group problem solving. It's a problem with a set of 4 clues, some of which are relevant to the problem and some of which aren&'t. It encourages children to find important information when problem solving and discount irrelevant details. It&';s also great for collaborative work. This was aimed at a low ability Year 3 class.
