This is a lovely mini poetry unit of 6 lessons written for KS2 but easily adapatable for KS1, using the wonderful poem, ‘The Magic Box’ by Kit Wright as a stimulus. It can also be used as a whole class performance poetry unit for events such as National Poetry Day. I have taught this unit many times to a range of different age groups and the children have always loved it. It’s also a brilliant unit for developing vocabulary and use of creative language.

At the start of the unit, the children explore the language features used by the poet. Then, they move on to writing their own ‘Magic Box’ poem, performing it and then presenting it for display.

All the resources for this unit were sourced for free from the internet (some from the TES website) and are easy to find.
