This resource provides an introduction to colour as part of the elements of art.

‘Colour’ consists of a PowerPoint presentation explaining colour theory and language accompanied by extensive teachers notes and multiple worksheets which cover use of the material by a wide range of ages and abilities.

The resource can be delivered as a single or multiple lesson depending on ability and time available.

The completed worksheets can be added to students sketch books to provide useful reference for future study and evidence of learning.

The resource consists of:

‘Colour’ PowerPoint presentation covering the start of colour theory. Includes, colour language and terminology, hue, colour wheels, primary and secondary colours, colour value, tints, shades and tones, and colour intensity.

Pdf of teachers notes for each page/item of the presentation. This provides explanation and background information to enable the teacher, even if not an art expert, to understand and deliver the lesson.

Set of 5 worksheets covering activities for all ages and abilities in the primary age group.

• Colour flower – Use knowledge of Primary and Secondary colours to fill in each of the 6 petals on the flower. 2 sheets, one black outlined petals, one with petals the colour that need to be filled. Encourages colour mixing, matching and knowledge.

• Colour Value and Intensity – complete the sheet using 2 different paint mediums to fill in the words ‘value’ and ‘intensity’ to practice and understand the difference between value and intensity in colour language.

Pdf of teachers notes relating to the completion of the above worksheets. Also included in this are helpful tips and advice on colour mixing, and art equipment to facilitate this. There are also suggestions for ways in which these activities can fulfil curriculum requirements and objectives.

I have aimed to make this resource useful and usable to those who do not have much art expertise for themselves but wish to inspire art and understanding in their students. It is of course usable by experts too. The variety of worksheets and flexibility within them, makes this resource an adaptable and useful tool for covering the elements of art.
