I found a graph on the BBC News website showing the breakdown of the cost of fuel in Britain and thought that the students could calculate the percentage of each cost from the price of one litre.

This is a nice idea for a starter when studying writing as a percentage of a total, students have to interpret the graph and then work out what percentage is VAT, profit etc. You could display this on the board to save on copying, answers are included too! Thank you for sharing.
