Jean Tinguely in his quotes - the artist on sculpture, moving machine art and on his life in France - free resource for students, pupils, art-lovers and teachers in French art history

.
Jean Tinguely’s artist quotes are focusing on the creation of kinetic / moving sculptures. He rejects furiously every kind of art which is immobile. Reality and life only exist in movement, he says. His moving sculptures he constructed mainly from discarded industrial components. Most of his created sculptures could move and run electrically.

Tinguely became the first sculptor of running sculptures - the so-called ‘metamatic or mechanic art’. His art is viewed as ‘Neo-Dada’ by many important art-historians. Most of his sculptures contained many connecting wheels inside the construction - they are often rather fragile. Tinguely also made moving fountains, together with his wife, the French woman-sculptor Niki de Saint-Phalle.
