John Ball's Speech to Peasants - Influences

Using the structure of: 'Why was the speech made?' and 'Who was the audience?', Dennis Skinner contextualises John Ball's famous persuasive speech made in 1381. He explores how an illiterate audience would have influenced the speech. In pairs, students identify the audience of John Ball's speech and make a list of the key influences that having an illiterate audience had on his speech e.g. popular/topical references, use of anecdote, analogy and simple language.
