I teach in Year 3 and find these lines are about right for aiding good handwriting. They have the three part structure and I coloured the middle part (for small letters) in yellow. I found that some lines were too wide for Y3 and so I adapted these lines to make them narrower. You can alter the size of the line simply by clicking on part of the image on the slide. I have included targets I use. Again, these can be edited. The font I used is Sassoon Primary so it may look different if you don’t have that font.

I use these sheets for specific handwriting lessons although I did used them all the time in Year 1 but started with wider lines and gradually got narrower as the year progressed and their handwriting becoming more mature. They really help children to see the ‘three parts’ for tall letters, small letters and loops/descenders.
