To be used as a starter / plenary activity to develop thinking skills and application of knowledge. Students design and answer their own questions based on the picture - Differentiated by outcome. Example questions: 1) How many pennies would cover the dollar bill? 2) What is a quick way of working this out? 3) Using areas of rectangles and circles, what area of the dollar bill would not be covered by pennies if you covered the bill with pennies?

Improving estimation skills has been proven to boost students' overall understanding in Mathematics. This certainly does that and allows for plenty of class discussion too.
