My middle ability class were struggling with the new GCSE magnification calculations. I found the working out the size of cells activity on TES and created the help sheet for my middle / lower ability pupils.
Example calculation included, structured steps to work out and a framework for pupils to complete the calculations. Including converting mm to micrometers.
Had much more success in the lesson with the help sheet.
