Everything you need to teach basic number skills!
I used these lessons with a middle ability year 7 lesson at the start of the year to see how their basic skills were with decimals, negatives, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division skills.

All lessons contain:
5 a day starter,
learning objectives with progress tick sheet,
Fully animated and clear examples,
Differentiated, colour-coordinated questions WITH answers,

Lesson 1:
Place Value and ordering decimals.
Includes a starter on writing numbers in words, examples of what place value means, leading onto how we can use this to find the value of numbers/decimals and order them.

Lesson 2:
Multiplication and division of integers of 10.
Simple, clear examples with whiteboard activity to check progress, great for all abilities. Independent, varied colour coded differentiated questions as main activity.

Lesson 3:
Add and Subtract negative numbers.
Introduction with temperature, followed by clear examples and differentiated and functional questions about real life examples.

Lesson 4:
Multiplying and dividing negative numbers!
Separate examples of multiplication and division of negative numbers, with individual questions to complete for main task and challenging multiplication grid activity to end.

Lesson 5:
Mental addition and subtraction.
Exploring various methods of mental addition and subtraction so students can be introduced to, hopefully, some useful new methods!

Lesson 6:
Written methods of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
Numerous examples to go through as a class/students to go through with odd one out activities to self assess and mark work.

These are some of my favourite lessons to use to really find out what students’ number skills are like at the start of a year! Let me know if you enjoyed using them too, or if there is anything else you think!
