Odd Socks - A Story About Difference and Diversity

Odd Socks is a colourful story with pictures and text. It uses the metaphor of ‘odd socks’ to deal with cultural differences, intellectual differences, and physical differences. It was originally written to help the siblings of children with disabilities - however, the metaphor of ‘odd socks’ is broad enough to encompass a whole range of issues relating to diversity. Due to popular demand, this resource is now also avaliable as a powerpoint. It is the download labelled 'oddsockspdf'.

Though this is aimed at diversity, I thought it might be a good resource to use with a Primary 3 class as the starting point for a series of lessons on bullying. It proved very effective - the children enjoyed the clear, bright visuals and the discussions on the points raised were entered into enthusiastically and fruitfully. Thanks for a very useful resource, Jo.

Just wondering if you think this would work with a year 6 class as well, with a view to stimulating a discussion relating to ASC? I had a younger sister with Downs syndrome and reading this brought tears to my eyes and I'm supposed to be a grown up!
