A lesson focusing on introducing lower ability students to implicit and explicit information and reading the opening of John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men. Designed to develop students’ ability to identify and examine implicit meanings, the lesson offers simple definitions and then a group activity to strengthen the grasp of implicit meanings before reading the opening two pages of the novel focusing on George and Lenny’s relationship.

Aimed at and successfully taught to lower ability KS3 but could be used with lower ability KS4 or with SEND students.
