This RE SMART and PPT is a series of five lessons and all resources based on RE planning for the unit “Who is a Muslim and what do they believe?” Please note that this resource is the first five lessons of the unit which is intended to be taught over two terms (See “Who is a Muslim and what do they believe?” PART TWO for the next five lessons). However, each unit could be used as a stand alone unit.
Each lesson starts with a sticky knowledge retrieval quiz and vocabulary activity.
Activities include drawing a special person in their lives; drawing a place where God can be found; a task based on the story of the Prophet Mohammad and the Cat linked to caring for animals; study of the stories The Prophet and the Ants and The Crying Camel; a drawing and writing activity linked to the Prophet’s stories; a special place and special objects hunt around school; guided visualisation activity based on their special place; virtual tour of a mosque; reaction to Call to Prayer recording; emotions task based on entering a new mosque for the first time; and ranking activity of ten special words.
The concepts of Adhan, Shahadah, Qur’an, respect for Allah and the Prophet, and Salah are all covered in age appropriate ways.

Lessons include videos, group/partner discussion, group tasks, individual tasks and making links to children’s own lives. All resources are included, and there is a printing requirement list for the whole unit. Please note - the SMART and PowerPoint contain the same content, but you need Notebook software to open SMART.
