A simple FREE interactive whiteboard Maths game Subitising Snowflakes to develop children’s early number skills. Children are presented with varying arrangments of snowflakes and say how many snowflakes they can see and show the amount using their fingers / click on the matching symbolic number (i.e., either 4 or 5 snowflakes).

This game works well as an ideal Maths starter session. Children learn to subitise (see an amount without counting items individually) within 5 - a key early learning goal for Reception. This subitising game can be played during whole class teaching and learning and or as part of small group adult-led session, encouraging children to see different ways of making four or five. This maths game fits well with WhiteRose Maths EYFS Spring Term Alive in 5 by targeting understanding of numbers within five. This resource may also work well as a simple assessment tool to judge whether children can reliably subitise amounts within five. (This game is 32 slides in length and easily editable). It leads well into independent exploration and making different patterns using four or five paper snowflakes.
