AQA Science (New specification) lesson; differentiated for a low ability class. Interactive, with differentiated tasks.

Addresses the following specification points from the Biology specification:
4.5.2.2 The brain
The brain controls complex behaviour. It is made of billions of interconnected neurones and has different regions that carry out different functions.
• The cerebral cortex is concerned with consciousness, intelligence, memory and language.
• The cerebellum is concerned mainly with the coordination of muscular activity.
• The medulla is concerned with unconscious activities such as heartbeat and breathing.
Students should be able to identify these structures on a diagram of the brain.

Does not address higher ability content:
Neuroscientists have been able to map the regions of the brain to particular functions by studying patients with brain damage, electrically stimulating different parts of the brain and using MRI scanning techniques. The complexity and delicacy of the brain makes investigating and treating brain disorders very difficult.
