A Russian billionaire, Asman Veryrich, has approached you about setting up a new football club! This exciting, engaging investigation activity allows students to control the direction of their own learning, through speaking, listening, discussing, and reasoning. I initially created these resources to provide something interesting for the students to engage with for their English Speaking and Listening discussions, but it has since been used across Maths, Art and Design, and PSHE departments, as well as by form groups and holiday activity groups, to build teamwork and collaboration skills. Students get involved in all of the fun aspects of designing and setting up a new football club, including selecting a team of players, a manager, a stadium, and a training ground. They also design the team's club badge and football kits. They also need to use their skills of literacy to read and understand key evidence, and skills of numeracy to ensure that they keep their expenses within budget! What is more, groups can compete against one another to create the most successful team in the league, as all of the resources that they choose can help them to acquire valuable league table points! Included in this resource pack are: - Full PowerPoint lesson talking students through the process; - An 8 page team booklet, used to create their designs and calculate their budgets; - A pack of 96 player cards and 12 manager cards to select from (a combination of new and classic footballers are included, to ensure that this will never be outdated); - Budget and recording sheets to track their progress; - An A3 football pitch to strategise and select their team. Considering the time and effort that it took to create these resources, I think that they offer exceptional value. Whenever I have used this activity before, it has taken at least 3-4 lessons, including the introduction, design process, presentations, and evaluation. I originally have used this with mixed ability Year 9 and 10 groups, but colleagues have adapted it easily for students of all key stages. All images have been cited at the end of the PowerPoint presentation and are licensed for commercial use.

An easy to use Excel Spreadsheet to analyse the maths test scores from the 2023 KS2 SATs though Question Level Analysis (QLA). Papers 1 (arithmetic), 2 and 3 (reasoning) are analysed. Will highlight students’ areas of strength and weaknesses in key maths areas including number, calculation, problem solving, handling data, and shape and measurement. Simply add the students’ name and their score and the spreadsheet will update and produce graphs.

Fun with frogs and data handling at KS1. The lesson starts with children looking at the colour poster of 18 frogs all wearing different hats. Children observe carefully looking at the frogs eye colour and types of head wear. Sheet 2 asks children to count and record e.g. number of frogs with brown eyes/party hats/work hats. There are 5 questions to answer. Sheet 3 is for children to draw a hat on each of the frogs and label them. Sheet 4 shows frogs in different positions or activities. Children colour the matching frogs to make them the same. Sheet 5 shows 2 writing frames for children to write about frogs or their findings of the data handling activities.

This was a PowerPoint presentation and handout that I put together for a staff meeting in my role as subject-leader. It introduces ideas from the Mathematics Specialist Teacher programme and aims to develop mathematical reasoning. It discusses the importance of reasoning, outlines the mathematical skills required to develop reasoning and provides ideas for activities to develop reasoning. The activities can be adapted to suit any age group and any mathematical concept. Many of the activities could also be adapted across the curriculum. They are self-differentiating, with a low entry point and high ceiling and are very quick and easy to set up. The activities are a great option for lesson starters, mental maths activities or time-fillers. The notes under each slide provide an explanation of the activity and some ideas on how it could be adapted. The handout is provided in both PDF and Microsoft Word format.

This is a whole lesson based on the Year 5 Statistics objective of " Draw line graphs”. This resource includes the teacher input ( learning journey), independent worksheet and a depth activity to deepen the children’s understanding of the concept being learned. This can be done as whole class or within a focus group (work better as whole class). The children look at the colour of their friends' eyes and make a tally chart. This would be a good way of starting off the topic of tally vharts as the results are completed by observing, and there are not a lot of opions.

The children look at what colour hair their friends have, and complete the tally chart appropriately. A good, easy way to start the topic of tally charts. The children are also given a reminder of how to tally at the top of the page.
